Day 31 last day!

Today i placed all the music on the animation. Its a harder task than it looks, you can't just put any old music to it as i found out because it sometimes clashes with the story you are telling. something without lyrics is best bet and the speed and sound needs to be relevent to speed and emotion of the film.
I have mixed feelings about my finish piece some parts i am proud of but then there are parts i am not so proud of. I know the bits that were rushed so maybe its just in my head, all the people i have shown liked it. Hopefully people will enjoy watching it as much as i enjoyed making it :D

Day 30

I placed all my footage together on final cut and put a few transitions in to soften the scene changes. I had a few difficulties with the timing but i think i sorted it and gave enough time between the scene to give the suspense. I also added all of the sound effects.

Day 29

I needed to get all my drawn animation done by the end of today because i will not have access to the programes i need again. i drew all the extra things i needed like the boss and set. I then spent the day putting together the final scene which i feel was much more sucessfull than the other drawn parts. i even managed to make up a small animation for my credits including all the characters from my film.

Day 28

For my title scene I animated around the title which i drew and animated in photoshop. I was unsure of the first attempt so i made a few different versions and with some help from some friends i decided which looked the best.

Day 27

I decided to use still images for my drawn animation so i took photos of the set i made and put them into photoshop. I managed to put together the scene where i go through a tear in the wall. I also put togetherthe small opening scene of jamie,drawn where he gets captured.

Day 26

I was hoping to edit my S.F section and complete it today but i had a problem with exporting it from flash. some of the symbol animations wouldnt play in quicktime. In the end i just redrew each frame in photoshop and imported them from there instead.

Day 25

I put the mario set i filmed into final cut but i decided not to use it as it is too jerky and doesnt achieve what i hoped for. I also spent the afternoon editing my Doom stopmotion animation. I put some sounds and effects and have chosen a song that suits the animation. (Hit the floor.B.F.M.V)

Dat 24

I drew up the rest of the sequenes i needed for the mario section and made a small cut out set. I then filmed the set in the way the story will be. I plan to place the animation on top of it in flash.

Day 23

Completing the rest of the fight scene didnt take long so i could quickly move onto the rest of the streetfighter part where i apear through the background and walk up to the fight. using footage i took of myself in movement i used the rotoscope technique to remove evrything in the images but myself an place it in the animation.

Day 22

I cut out all the images i took for the bad guy (also me) in streetfighter and loaded them into my flash document. I managed to get the majority of the fight scene completed and so far i am pleased with the outcome. i have had some very possitive comments and people have been saying they cat wait to see the finished film. the comical side to it seems to be what attrats people.

Day 21

I made the extra models i needed to complete my Doom animation and managed to finish the scene. This is the first complete scene, i just need to add sounds and i can focus more on the other sections.

Day 20


I have been looking for somebody to play the part of the bad guy in my street fighter animation but i was thinking about how in the game sometmes you can have the same person fight themselves but wearing diferent outfits. i then decided to use myself again as the 2cnd fighter but wearing diferent clothes. i looked at all the diferent poses i needed to do and took all the photographs.

Day 19

I have been touching up my sketches for the drawn animation and using footage of somebody falling and standing i successfully drew it in mario style. i also drew the matrix freaze and spin part which proved more difficult than i expected.

Day 18

I started to drw out the walk and run cycle for my mario section. it was proving a difficult process so i used footage of somebody walkin as a base for my drawings. I have put these rough sketches into image ready and made them walk. The walk cycle from behind that i have drawn looks a little jumpy so i will have to work on that one a bit more.

Day 17

I have now started to place together my streetighter animation. so far i have made the fight scene but only with me in it. I still need to add the other character that i am fighting. I lso presented my work so far today to my group and recieved some possitive feedback that assured me that i am achieving what i wanted to

Day 16

I made about 30 seconds of animation today for my Doom section and i am fairly pleased with the result although there are a few things i would like to change about it like the set and the wire that apears now and then. I plan to finish the animating next week when i have all the characters ready.

Day 15

I have been making the doom set today. i made the floor and wall pattern on photoshop and printed them out. i also made a frame that i could slot the walls into so i can easily change the set around or put it away when i have finished wth it. I then drew a story board in preperation for my filming tomorrow.

Day 14

I have been experimenting with bluescreen today to see if it could be of use putting me into the games and to see if i could do claymation with it insted of making a set. The stop motion animatig was a little difficult because of the lighting and shadows created. I aso had difficulty making the model just stand up on the fabric and i think it would be easier to make a small set.

Day 13



I made a model of myself that i am quite proud of. it is very light so it should be easy to animate and i have also put a hook on the armature in case i need the model to leave the ground. I made a jumper and some jeans out of scrap material i found and used plastercine for the hands and face.

Day 12

I brought together all my ideas and managed to create a short story that contains the games MARIO, DOOM and STREETFIGHTER. I decided to cut the other games out because they would have created too much work for me in the short time. the ones i chose had some links between them that helped when making the story.

Day 11


I drew my console on illustrator to get a better idea on how i wanted it to look and i recieved a few ideas from others on the design. I also put together my photographs to see if i had enough to make my streetfighter animation in the right style. i thought i was successful, i can jump, walk, kick and punch. i just need to put these to a background and story.

Day 10

I started to design my console for the film by looking at existing consoles and how they work or dont. I have come up with a few ideas for a new console that fits into my story ideas. I made a few sketches of my ideas and im planning how to make it.

Day 9

I have been playing street fighter today so i could observe the movements of the characters. I found that they are made up of a few frames, so i went on to take photos of myself in these different positions to make up the walking and attacks in this style.

Day 8

I have been out filming myself walking, running and doin anything my characters will be doing so i can use it to make my animations look more realistic. i may also use it for rotoscoping if i decide to use the technique further into my project.

Day 7


I have been trying to capture the movements in the mario game today which i have used to draw my character in the different movements. I also came up with my version of mario by putting my clothing and hair on the luigi shape.

Day 6



I recieved my new copy of Tron today after a few people have been suggesting this film to me as it is about a man who gets sucked into his games to destroy a virus. After watching the film and the making of it i can see why people suggested it. i would recomend this film to anyone also interested in photograph as it is a very visualy exciting film. They exposed each frame manualy to get the light effects that show the characters energy levels which was a great acheivment of the time and i can see how it became a great inspiration to all those interested in that industry.

Day 5


Today i have been watching and taking notes on Super Mario world (cartoon) and Super mario bros (real life film). From watching these i have decided to make my Mario section in the style of this cartoon because i think it would fit well when i zoom into the character whilst in gameplay.

Day 4

I have moved from researching games to look at some films inspired by games. I watched a few of these films and took notes but others i just looked up on the internet. Spy kids 3D is a big inspiration for my animation as it is all about going inside a game that was made to do this and not by accident. Inside the game is like a 3D virtual world where they play whilst their bodies outside the game are in a sort of coma.
Streetfighter and mortal combat are based on games and use the characters from them but in a real life situation. It helped me to think about what i should use from games but as i want my film to stay like a game i couldnt find much from these films.

Day 3

I have been looking at games that would make up a smaller amount of time in my film today. These are Doom and Streetfighter.
Doom
I found doom to be a very simply and repetetive game that focuses on the monsters rather than the main character as it is in first person. This would make it difficult to show myself in this enviroment and make it my own so i would probably have to change the monsters (possibly taken from other games) or change the view from first person which my take away the games personallity. I think this game may cause too much trouble for the small amount of animation i want out of it.
Streetfighter
I chose to put streetfighter into my film because it is a well known popular game that i could quite easily place myself in. I look forward to creating i own special moves, i checked out the different characters style of fighting to help me with this. I also found some backgrounds on the internet that i could use in my animation if i dont use actual gameplay.

Day 2

i have been researching zelda for my 2nd game. I looked at the gameplay, scenary and the items like weapons and extras that may be of use to me when i am trying to make a connection to the game in my animation.
I was thinking about using the ocarina of time for the N64 to stay with the more classic games whilst still giving me the chance to work in 3D. If anyone has any suggestions on a game i would be greatful.

Day 1

To start my project off i will be researching some games to get a feel for them and see what styles of animation i should use.





Today i have been looking at Mario games to get an idea of the characters and how i could place myself into the game. I played a couple of the games and decided to work with super mario bros 3 because i liked the simple look of it and it is a classic game that i know will be recognised.
